In the month of May there are some interesting days called Tarraco Viva, during these dates, the city reconstructs its history, even its gastronomic history, through the recovery of recipes from the time of the Roman Empire.

If you want to mingle with the people of Tarragona, you should visit the city during the months of September, when they celebrate the city’s great festival, Santa Tecla. During these days the city celebrates folkloric, theatrical and gastronomic events.

El Miracle Beach is the main urban beach in Tarragona, with its calm waters and nearly 75 metres wide, making it ideal for enjoying with the whole family. Salou Beach is only twelve kilometres from the centre of Tarragona, and has several urban beaches with fine golden sand and calm waters.

Salou

• This coastal town on the Costa Dorada is only 12 kilometres from the centre of Tarragona and has several golden sandy beaches and coves with clean waters. Very close to Salou is the famous Port Aventura amusement park.

Reus

• Only 15 kilometres from the centre of Tarragona is the city of Reus. During your visit you will see its commercial importance in the region and its modernist heritage, with jewels such as: Casa Navás, Casa Rull, Casa Gasull and Casa de Quadras. In addition to important buildings in the Gothic style such as the church of Sant Pere, one of the symbols of the city; and the sanctuary of La Misericordia. During your visit you should visit the Gaudí Centre, the Pere Mata Institute, the Gaudí quarter, the Bartina Theatre, the Fortuny Theatre and the Bofarull Palace.

Cambrils

• If you are a good eater and want to taste local fish and seafood, you should visit this coastal town, just 20 kilometres from the centre of Tarragona. Once there, you can visit the old walls and the parish church of Santa Maria.

Falset

• If you are a lover of oenology and good wine, you must visit Falset, only 40 kilometres from the centre of Tarragona. The obligatory visit is to the winery of the Cooperativa Vinícola to learn about the production of wine under the Montsant and Priorat denomination of origin.

Horta de Sant Joan

• If you want to follow in Pablo Picasso’s footsteps, you should visit Horta de Sant Joan, a little over 100 kilometres from the centre of Tarragona. This small town houses the Centro Picasso d’Horta, where works painted by Picasso are exhibited in this town. You can also visit the Ecomuseum dels Ports.
